GS Fishing is an angler from Portugal who is passionate about targeting freshwater predators. Among them black bass (Micropterus salmoides) are his absolute favourite, as they are the most abundant and commonly caught species in Portuguese lakes. He enjoys exploring different waters and constantly improving his techniques to catch these fish.

Some time ago he caught a massive fish measuring around 60 cm in length and weighing over 2.5 kg! It was a real monster and the biggest one he landed during the last fishing season, although it was not his Personal Best. We're keeping our fingers crossed for this season and hope for another spectacular catch and of course, a new Personal Best! We can’t wait to see more amazing fish on his Fishsurfing account. On that memorable day, he was fishing at a lake in central Portugal. It was not a planned angling trip, just a regular day of fishing. Besides the black bass (Micropterus salmoides), he also caught a zander (Sander lucioperca), which is another popular species in Portugal. During that session, he used an extremely effective weedless setup known as the Texas rig, which is recommended for targeting perch, zander and also black bass in dense vegetation, as well as over rocky bottoms. The successful bait was a Rapala CrushCity Cleanup Craw. Black bass are predators that eat small fish, frogs, and crayfish in their natural habitat.
As the happy angler told us, he hadn’t felt the thrill of catching such a big fish in a long time. He landed this bass using one of his favourite techniques in a wood-filled underwater area. He couldn’t have asked for more from the experience of catching this black bass. If you are a predator angler that is fishing in areas full of wood and underwater rocks, you should definitely try the Texas rig if you’ve never used it before. As we’ve seen, it is very effective and brings a lot of joy during fishing.

GS Fishing wishes all Fishsurfing users a season full of great catches, and we also wish him an amazing fishing year. We can’t wait to see more massive fish from Portugal!
