Tenterden Trout Waters

Tenterden Trout Waters

The Fishery

Established in 1975, Tenterden Trout Waters was one of the first Still Water Fisheries in South East England. The Fishery is still family owned and run by Barry & Audrey’s (Founders) Daughter, Gaynor, and her Husband, Richard, they continue to run it in the same relaxed and friendly manner which Barry had projected over 41 years of running his successful business which has made it a popular venue.

The Fishery enjoys an excellent reputation with discerning fly fishermen and is a Troutmasters Water.  The Trout Fisherman Magazine has awarded the Fishery the accolade of being in the Top 50 of the Top 100 Stillwater Fisheries in the British Isles for 2018.

Situated in a picturesque and peaceful location in the Weald of Kent, just a few minutes from the thriving town of Tenterden.  There are 3 lakes totalling 5.5 acres of water.  All the lakes have large retainer baskets placed around the banks in which anglers can put their fish. They then select their limit at the end of the fishing session therefore giving the Angler the opportunity to take home a best bag of fish.  All other fish are then carefully returned to the lake using a net. There is a maximum of 10 fish that can be caught per permit.  Alternatively, anglers can return fish directly to the water. In this way a successful  ‘catch and release’ system has been developed.

A new Fishing Lodge was opened in July 2018 which provides a great social hub for Anglers with kitchen and toilet facilities. It is situated in an elevated position on the side of Lake 1 with nice views over the Lake which can be enjoyed whilst sitting on the verandah. Complimentary Tea/Coffee is supplied. Photos can be found in the Gallery.

All 3 lakes are stocked regularly with Rainbow, Blues & Brown Trout, ranging in size from 2lbs to 12lbs.

Floating and intermediate lines are most successful though sinking lines are useful for exploring the deeper areas. Popular flies at the Fishery include Gold Head Patterns, such as Montanas, Damsels, Buzzers, Diawl Bach and Coopers Yellow.

All these flies are available from an excellent selection we hold in stock.
We request that barbless hooks may be used when fishing on a “catch and release” permit but standard hooks will otherwise be used.
