Ola and Grzegorz, known in the angling community as Wędkarskozakochani, recently shared another impressive catch on their Fishsurfing account. This time, an almost 20-kilogram grass carp fell for their bait - caught from a wild, publicly accessible PZW- managed water.
An atmospheric, well-known lake
This was not their first encounter with this body of water. As they admit themselves, they have visited this spot many times before and it has earned a special place in their hearts.
“We’ve fished this water many times. It’s an old favourite spot with an incredible atmosphere and beautiful sunsets” they say.
Although the lake is mainly known for carp reaching around 10 kg, as well as bream, a grass carp of this size had never appeared in their angling history on this water.
The plan was carp, but grass carp bit instead
Heading out for this session, they were targeting carp. In line with that plan, they prepared bait with a classic squid flavour, a scent well known for its effectiveness in carp fishing.
It turned out, however, that this time it was the grass carp that was attracted to the intense, “stinky” groundbait and baits originally prepared for a completely different target.
Their rig was mainly baited with squid-flavoured boilies. They used both whole and crushed boilies, combined with corn and 2 mm fish pellets, all heavily soaked in a matching-scent booster. The baiting was generous,with large amounts of feed delivered using a Spomb.
A double record in one session
What happened during this session exceeded their wildest expectations. The anglers broke their previous grass carp record not once, but twice - within a very short period of time!
First, a 15.2 kg specimen came to the net, setting a new personal best for the pair. Shortly afterwards, another grass carp took the bait - this time weighing an impressive 19.6 kg. It broke the record that had just been set and became the largest grass carp in their angling history.
An exciting fight full of twists
The moment of the bite and the fight that followed were, as they describe it, exceptionally intense. The very first run of the reel made it clear that a truly impressive specimen was on the end of the line and the long battle only confirmed their suspicions.
The most thrilling moments came in the final seconds of the fight. The grass carp repeatedly escaped the landing net, breaking the surface with powerful leaps and right until the very end it refused to give up, making spectacular runs just metres from the bank.
Next session already planned for August
This success has encouraged Ola and Grzegorz to return to the same fishing spot. They are already planning their next trip for early August, and the experience gained during this latest session may prove valuable during the next outing.
The pair do not rule out deliberately targeting grass carp rather than common carp this time. They have also announced a change to their groundbait mix - it will contain more sweeteners and corn, which they hope will increase their chances of landing another big grass carp.
